Scandinavian Style

We are seeing an increasing interest in Scandinavian style when it comes to home interiors. By that, we do not mean furniture being purchased from IKEA, but instead, using a light colour palette on floors, walls and furniture to create a simplistic and classic design. This style comes from fact that there is not a lot of daylight in the winter months in Scandinavia, and so, homeowners chose white and natural finishes to bring light into their properties.

When it comes to floors, Scandinavians don’t like using carpets and tend to opt for timber for their flooring and often prefer long, wide planks. The aim for the flooring is to achieve light, natural textures and neutral tones. While light wood is usually selected, it’s important to also apply a white coloured wood finish. This will not only provide the desired Scandi look and protect the surface, but it will also enhance the wood’s natural grain.

At Osmo UK, we recommend using two finishes to achieve the clean, white look:

– Wood Wax Finish 3111 White and a top coat of Polyx-Oil Tints 3040 White

– Polyx-Oil Tints 3040 White and a top coat of Polyx-Oil Raw 3044

Wood Wax Finish

Osmo Wood Wax Finish is a satin-matt wood finish that is resistant to water and dirt and safe for humans, plants and animals. It requires no primer or sanding between coats and is quick and easy to apply.

Polyx®-Oil Tints

Based on the original Polyx®-Oil product, Polyx®-Oil Tints retains the natural beauty and character of the wood in a perfect way. The natural renewable ingredients in this product guarantee an even colour spreading and an overall pleasing finish.

Polyx®-Oil Raw

Polyx®-Oil Raw is lightly tinted protective finish that provides an original, untreated appearance for wooden floors. This finish is designed to retain this appearance by using a small amount of white pigments to neutralise the permanent ‘wet-look’ that develops after application of a clear finish.
