Renovating Original Floorboards with Osmo
Period properties harbour an array of original features and if you’re fortunate enough, it may just have the original floorboards too! We spoke with Leah from @themadebyleahhome who has been renovating her dining/snug room. The room featured dark original wooden floor boards which were scuffed and in desperate need of some TLC.
Having kept the majority of the original features within the 1803 home, restoring the floor was an important part of retaining the originality.
Once sanded back, the floors revealed themselves to be very light – Which is exactly what Leah wanted. In an effort to keep the ‘raw’ look of the floor, the next stage was to find a finish which would retain the colour but also protect the newly sanded floor from foot traffic.
Leah turned to Instagram to find the perfect finish. She received countless recommendations to use Osmo. Trusting word of mouth, Leah decided to use Osmo Oil Raw 3044, with two roller coat applications.
Osmo Oil Raw 3044 is lightly white pigmented which provides an almost invisible appearance with no ‘permanent wet effect’. Ensuring light coloured wood stays light coloured. In addition to the snug floor, Leah used on Osmo on both the living room floor and beams!
“For anyone looking for protection on their wooden floors without a “varnished” look, Osmo oil is a dream. It also goes on so easily. We absolutely love it and would use it again and again! We have used it on all our wood downstairs in this home renovation and would not even bother trying anything else in the future. Converts! We would use it on any wood projects in a heartbeat!”
