Use Osmo Finishes to Protect Wooden Surfaces
A year into lockdown and home offices have become a newly developed space for many of us. Whether or not you’ll go back to a five-day week in the office once lockdown has been lifted, the last 12 months have proved the importance of a well-designed room that is dedicated to your working life.
Cobham-based bespoke carpentry & joinery company, Kiwi Creations, specialises in designing and building handmade fitted furniture, and recently completed a home office project.
The client had a bespoke kitchen designed previously and wanted the office space to compliment the kitchen. Kiwi Creations designed a number of bespoke cabinetry items for this project and used these in combination with some that the client had sourced themselves. All built using veneered birch ply, Kiwi Creations required a wood finish and turned to Osmo UK.
“I wanted a hardwearing finish that was spill resistant and would be easy to repair if any scuffs or scratches appeared in the future. I had discovered Osmo UK early last year and having used both their interior and exterior products, quickly became a fan. For this project, I chose Polyx®-Oil Rapid 3262 Clear, Matt. I liked the look and feel of the finish and was pleased that it meant there wouldn’t be the risk of peeling and flaking that you can get with a varnish.”

Ideal for all furniture surfaces, Polyx®-Oil Rapid is a high quality, durable and hardwearing wood finish based on natural ingredients. Available in a matt, clear and satin-matt finishes, Polyx®-Oil Rapid is extremely and enhances the wood’s natural character. It is water repellent and will protect against dirt and common liquid spillages such as water, juice, tea, cola and wine.
Carl applied two coats of Polyx®-Oil Rapid directly onto the veneered surface and then sanded it with a P320 grit sanding disc. After giving the surface a good clean and dust, he then applied the final coat using a Osmo microfibre roller.
“I found the finish easy to apply and it made application very quick – it took just a few minutes per square meter depending on the areas being oiled. I generally leave the finish to dry overnight, even with the rapid product as it gets cold in the workshop over winter. I would the finish very easy to apply.”

The client now has a home office that features a desk, wall hanging shelves and drawers, and Polyx®-Oil Rapid has provided an almost completely natural look to the furniture.
“Overall, the Osmo finishes are fantastic, reliable products. If the time is taken during the initial coats, preparation and sanding stages, the end result is a perfectly smooth surface. The product goes a long way, which makes it good value for an exceptionally good product. I always recommend Osmo finishes to my clients, as well as to friends and family.”
