Osmo Recommends Advisory: For optimal results, please apply Osmo products to all hidden wooden surfaces prior to installation and weathering.
The following steps are recommended to achieve optimal results for your wood project, specifically cladding, decking, and other similar projects which when installed have non-visible, hidden wooden surfaces that also require protection.
1. Preparation
Prior to installation and the weathering period, Osmo recommends to wipe all wooden surfaces which will not be visible after installation with either methylated spirits or Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner.
Please leave the wooden surfaces which will remain visible after installation untouched and ready for the weathering period.
Why? Osmo recommends this method to hidden wooden surfaces because if this is not done, then moisture regression can be possible which can cause staining and increased maintenance, as well as frequency of re-applications.
2. Product Application
Once the hidden surfaces have been wiped/prepped, please follow Osmo Recommends from Step 3 onwards, and apply all relevant Osmo products to all of the hidden wooden surfaces.
For this process, one coat of each product will be sufficient. However, for best results, WR Base Coat and End Grain Sealing Wax can be applied twice.
Note: If you require ‘a finish that allows the wood to naturally grey over time’ this will be from Step 2 onwards.
3. Installation
Once the final Osmo product is dry, you may complete the installation of your project leaving the untouched, visible wooden surface exposed for weathering.
4. Weathering and Application
Now that your project has been fully installed, please follow Osmo Recommends from Step 1: weathering onwards.
This weathering period relates to the untouched, visible wooden surface which is exposed to the weather elements. Follow the Osmo Recommends guidance on how many weeks to allow for weathering for your wood type.
After the weathering period, Osmo recommends using Wood Reviver Power Gel, followed by the recommended Osmo finishing products, and finally End Grain Sealing Wax. For more information on all of these products, please reference your specific recommendation within the Osmo Recommends app.
Note: If you require ‘a finish that allows the wood to naturally grey over time’ Wood Reviver Power Gel will not be required.
