USE OSMO ON BAMBOO TO PROTECT INTERIOR PROJECTS
Bamboo is often claimed to be the world’s most versatile natural material. With uses that stretch from road building, bridges, even complete home construction, it’s hard to argue with that claim. Bamboo also makes a great, sustainable flooring material. Strong, durable and attractive, bamboo has become an increasing popular hardwood material for both interior and exterior projects. Its unique range of qualities also mean that bamboo requires special care and consideration when carrying out upkeep and maintenance.
Although bamboo has all the qualities of a hardwood, it’s not wood at all, it is in fact a species of grass. As such, it has a different type of cell structure and when it is processed it tends to be cut into thin strips and combined with glue or resin. This forms an excellent solid structure but can present a challenge when applying a fresh coat of finish for routine maintenance. This is because glue is not particularly absorbent, and it is hard for a finishing product to penetrate the material.
For interior finishing on bamboo, we recommend using our thinner hard wax oil product; Osmo Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin. This product brings less wax protection compared to regular Osmo hardwax oils however, it spreads easily to provide an excellent finish to the surface. Osmo Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin penetrates deeply and protects against wear, dirt and moisture. It is resistant to common liquid spillages and no primer is necessary, not even in bathrooms or kitchens. It has a microporous, breathable finish which does not crack, peel, flake or blister. Application is simple and the product can be brushed, wiped, dipped or sprayed on.
