Surface Preparation
The wood surface must be clean, dry, and frost-free (max. 12% wood moisture content).
Osmo LED Smart-Oil is ready to use; do not dilute. Stir thoroughly.
Old paint and varnish coatings must be completely removed.
Fill small cracks, larger gaps, or holes in the wood (with wood filler or joint compound). Carefully sand the wood surface, starting with coarse sandpaper – final sanding with colourless sandpaper for floors (P100-120), furniture (P120-180).
Before oiling, remove sanding dust from the surface by sweeping and vacuuming.
Method of Application
Apply the LED Smart-Oil thinly with a double-bladed spatula or similar tool.
For V-joints or other open surfaces, apply partially with a microfibre roller (not the entire surface). Then, spread the oil with a white pad manually or with a single-disc, massaging the product into the surface, and smooth the area without streaks. If streaks remain due to too much product, we recommend turning or replacing the pad.
Next, cure the surface finish with an UV LED spotlight at a distance of at least 2cm and no more than 10cm from the surface.
If a satin sheen is desired, apply the LED Smart-Oil again. To do this, lightly sand the first coat with fine P240-320 sandpaper, then apply the Smart-Oil very thinly (approx. 5-10 ml/m²) and smooth and cure as described above.
Note
LED Smart-Oil does not dry oxidatively. Without irradiation with suitable LED spotlights, or if LED spotlights with insufficient power or dose are used, complete curing will not occur and the surface will be unusable.
Caution: Add only a small amount of LED Smart-Oil to a paint tray or similar container to avoid a pre-reaction. When working with the liquid material, absolutely avoid direct sunlight and bright light with a UV component (e.g. from conventional LED lamps). If the surface is exposed to sunlight, curing will begin during application due to the UV rays! Cover/darken windows if necessary.
LED Smart-Oil enhances the natural color of the wood (permanent wet effect). For a nearly natural-looking surface, use LED Smart-Oil 5984 Natural (no permanent wet effect).
When using extractive hardwoods (e.g. wenge, merbau, jatoba, etc.), a test application is recommended.
Can be dried with suitable LED handheld systems. For coloured LED Smart-Oils, apply the first coat in the coloured version and the second coat in the colourless version (except for 5981 White). A coloured primer can also be applied using Osmo Oil Stain. Apply the oil stain according to the product information and allow it to dry for approximately 48 hours before applying the colourless LED Smart-Oil.
